Up In The Clouds

This past year, my fiancèe and I fell in love with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. During a trip there in July 2009, we went up to Clingmans Dome, the highest point in the GSMNP, at 6,643ft. There is an observation tower at the top and this image was taken looking out from it.

After a long absence, I'm going to start updating the photoblog again. I've taken some decent shots over the last year+, and it's time to start posting them. This one (along with all the new ones I'm going to be posting) was taken with my Canon PowerShot G9, since I don't presently have a DSLR body.

This shot is from Shell Island during my trip to Panama City in May 2009 (Memorial Day week).

Great Smoky Mountains

My girlfriend and I spent the long Valentine's weekend in Gatlinburg, TN. Over the next couple of weeks I'm going to be putting up some shots I took. Most of the initial ones I'll be putting up were taken with my Canon PowerShot G9, however I took several rolls of film and once those are developed and scanned I'll put some of them up as well. This was my first trip to the Great Smoky Mountains, but I'll be sure to visit again!

Small church in a big town

This is Cloverdale Christian Church in Montgomery, AL. I had the pleasure of visiting this church and meeting it's attending pastor recently. I just grabbed a few quick shots with my Canon PowerShot G9, but expect to see more shots of this wonderful old church soon after I make another visit with different equipment.

I must give a lot of credit to my wonderful girlfriend for this picture. She and I were on a date last week and we were admiring this beautiful sunset and she gladly indulged my hobby for a few minutes so I could get this picture.

I decided to get out and take some pictures over the weekend. I've really enjoyed learning to get some wildlife photos (birds mostly, since they are plentiful). The 70-200mm f/2.8L lens really has enabled me to get some amazing shots.

Young bird

One evening about a week ago, I found this young Mockingbird in the backyard. It wasn't trying to fly, but seemed big enough that it should be able to at least fly some. It was staying still for the most part, attempting to "blend in." I went inside and grabbed my camera and my trusty EF 70-200mm f/2.8L lens and took several shots. I got down really close to the ground to get this one. I am really proud of this shot.
